Until bots get a personality I'm not worried. Of course, a lot of novels lack personality. Those are the writers who should worry : )

Yes, Richard, but OpenAI's talking bots can put on an array of personalities, adjusting for tone and formality (although they do tend toward obsequious assistant or flirty/ironic coworker). The promos for them are silly and not convincing to me, but all this stuff is getting more sophisticated by the day.

It's got a personality? It tells original jokes? Has an attitude? A viewpoint revealed thru structure, cadence, wordplay? Fears exposing repressed emotions? Deploys rules and subtly breaks them? I don't think so but would love a sample

Check out some of the promos OpenAI has put out for ChatGPT 4os. I've put one YouTube link below. They aren't real personalities, of course, but they mimic the qualities you mention in ways that could be quite convincing to people. The big thing they don't do is offer an actual viewpoint that doesn't change when prompted by a human ("be sarcastic," "tone down your voice for a lullaby"). That would require consciousness and the freedom to be themselves.
