TW’s Community Manager Neva Talladen talks to the CEO and Co-Founder of Pique Publishing. In 2022, she was inspired to launch The Editor's Half Hour podcast—a monthly podcast that focuses on the craft of editing, industry trends, and editorial resources for advanced editors. The two discuss Nadia’s move from book coaching to starting her own publishing company, where she and her team help authors take advantage of the best book production practices.
Within the publishing process, the author has to explore product sales, design, and marketing strategies to capture the attention of their audience. Nadia and her team tackle this transition head-on and take a partnership role with the author through the process by offering key insights into industry standards and best practices for marketing a book.
Pique Publishing prides itself on having important conversations with its clients early on in the process in order to avoid production headaches down the line. It helps the author get a better understanding of their part in the process as well as the publishing process as a whole. They can see what strategies are being used to drive sales as well as what aesthetic choices will be made to support the content of the book.
Before Nadia grew her team to where it is today, Nadia was a book and publishing coach. At the time, Nadia was devoted to manuscript development and copy editing. But as she started to work with more clients from all over the industry—including corporate clients, magazine publishers, and accepting editorial calendar work—she knew she needed to expand. Nadia would work on one project at a time, but she didn’t want to say no to a project just because her schedule was full. So she eventually hired a teammate to support her on the editing side of things. The company grew from there and now she and her team offer publishing services for every client’s perspective.
Listen to Nadia Pupa’s episode to hear more about the publishing industry and how writers can benefit from understanding the process as a whole.
